Macaque

    The macaques in Wulingyuan have red faces and chubby mascles. Due to the special living surroundings, they are good at climbing the vines and steep cliffs.

Huang Yao Zi

    Huang Yao Zi is a small beast in Wulingyuan. It is as big as a dog of one month old. But it is called "the Nimblest of All Beasts" because of its clever and quick actions. They move in groups, even monkeys or tigers cat't get rid of their attack. But they are afraid of tourists.

Bangbang Fish

    Bangbang Fish lives in Suoxi Stream. It's difficult to catch them because they are agile and often hide under stones. The fisherman beat the stone violently driving the fish into unconscious-ness. Before they come to, they are in the basket of the fisherman.

Yanbang Frong

    In summer and autumn near the Gold Whip Stream, you will hear "bang", "bang" That's from the Yanbang Frog. They belong to look like frogs.

Giant Salamander

    Against Salamander is a kind of rare animal in the streams of Zhangjiajie. It is more than 10cms long .It cries like babies. so it is also called "baby fish"

Otter

    Otter or Common otter, looks like a pup and is an amphibious animal living by the rivers or lakes. It can swim and Lives on fish.

White Snake and Red Snake

    There are two kinds of white snakes in Zhangjiajie; one is also called "glass snake" whose skin looks transparent, the other is covered with silcer scale. which look like jewels, Both white snakes are hypertoxic.
    There are also two kinds of red snakes. One is covered with red scales and looks like a red ribbon. The other has a red head and blue body . It's called "Cock Snake" with a cockscomb on its head.

Musk Deer

    Musk deer is a rare animal. It is smaller than deer and has no horn. Musk secreted by male musk deer is very precious.

Racoon Dog

    Racoon dogs look like foxes, but are fatter. They live near valleys, mountains and fields. They live on fish, mouse , frog, shrimp, crabs and wild fruits.

Flying Fox

    Flying Fox has another name for flying squirrel. It is 80cms long. Its four limbs are joined up by a skin membrane by which it can fly through trees. It sleeps in the daytime and go out for food at night.

Bu Jian Tian

    Bu Jian Tian is another name for mole. tes unique skill is to dug tunnels. Therefore to live underground is most suitable for it.

    There are more than500 wild boars ,in over 10groups, in Wulingyuan, They live on crops.

Civet

    Civets are bigger than cats. The oil liquid they secreted can be used as spice and medicinal material.

Pangolin

    Pangolins are good at drilling. They are protected by the state.

Golden Pheasant with Red Belly

    It is a precious bird in our country and is distributed widely in Wulingyuan. It lives on the fruits of pine and cypress. The golden pheasants are timid and dert and move individually. In spring the male Pheasants fight each other for the female partner.

The Red Billed Leiothrix

    The leiothrix is flexible and cored by colorful feathers. They choose places with beautiful natural lands copw as their habitats, They stay in pairs wherever one is caught, the other will keep the track of its partner and die together with it .

Cayoy Water pheasant

    It is also a golden pheasant with red belly .What's special about it is that it has a bag below its rock for carrying water. It lives on peaks and fly down to drink only when it is thirsty Its bag can contain water of half a kilogram or so, which can support it for four to five daya, The local residents call it "small camel" sometimes.

Ga Ga Chicken

    It gets this name from its sound ?“ga,ga? It is covered by gray feather, It weighs two to four kilograms and look clumsy, It lives on peaks and on wild fruits and insects.

Sparrow Hawk

    It flies fastest during short distances, Most of them make nests in the gaps on peaks, not only do they fly fast ,but they are good at catching preys, They even dare to attack pheasants which are larger than them in size.

Pheasant with white Head

    The upper part of its body is golden, the lowest part maroon. Only the feathers on the head and neck are as white as snow. It is a specious bird in China and lives in dense forests.

Cuckoo

    Cuckoo birds do not make nests by then selves, but lay eggs in other birds' nests by force.
